Key Responsibilities

Strategy Development and Implementation

  • Develop and implement Major Donor strategic and operational plans to meet section targets with a focus on supporters who can donate above £50,000, preferably at six and seven-figure level. This is in close association with the strategic planning for the wider Major Gifts and Philanthropy strategy.
  • Proactively qualify and assign prospects to suitable members of the team depending on the prospect’s capacity, motivations, and engagement. Ensure that each member of the team has an equal workload and opportunity to extend their experience as major donor fundraisers.
  • Develop a strong pipeline of national and international major gift prospects using various methods to identify warm and cold opportunities.
  • Ensure due diligence research of all types (including donor identification, gift declarations, ethical checks and audit requirements) is completed, delegating when necessary.
  • Strengthen CAFODs policies, processes and systems to ensure they are fit for purpose so you will be contributing to policy and process development, as well as systems improvement to ensure our work is measurable, efficient and compliant.

Donor Relationship Management

  • Develop trusted relationships with donors through devising and implementing cultivation, asking and stewardship plans, with a clear focus on securing General Funds (unrestricted and restricted donations)
  • Soliciting significant and principal gifts for agreed specific projects and programmatic themes from your own portfolio - either directly or through an appropriate peer to peer approach.
  • Work closely with the Every Second Counts Lead to ensure major donors’ objectives are coordinated and manage relevant donors and stakeholders.
  • Ensure that best practice is followed with respect to GDPR and safeguarding in relation to prospect & donor information storage, processing, and communication.
  • Oversee event planning by the MGP and the Major Donor team members to ensure they meet fundraising, cultivation and stewardship goals
  • Consistently engage senior staff, trustees, clergy and ambassadors in peer-to-peer major donor programme event opportunities.

Line management in line with CAFOD’s management standards

  • Provide Major Donor team leadership and day to day management for two Major Donor Executives through regular team meetings and other MGP members as required.
  • Hold regular 1:1 meetings to create development plans and review performance.
  • Assess training needs and train staff where appropriate.
